CSPA Ambassadors Program
In August 2026, the Membership Committee of the Camano Stanwood
Pickleball Association (CSPA) launched the CSPA Ambassadors Program.
This informal program is designed to help new members feel welcome,
included, and comfortable asking for help with anything related to the
club or the game.
Why did we launch the Ambassador program?
In recent annual member surveys, several newer members told us that
after joining CSPA, they sometimes felt a little lost—or even ignored. They
didn't know how to unlock the nets, sign up for sessions on Playtime
Scheduler, or keep score. Some felt intimidated by experienced players
who seemed far beyond their skill level. Unfortunately, a few new
members became discouraged and simply stopped coming.
We want to change that. The Ambassador Program is designed to make sure new members—and even first-time guests—have a friendly face to turn to if they have questions or need a little help getting comfortable.
What Are the Responsibilities of a CSPA Ambassador?
There is no formal job description and no required number of sessions you must attend each week. We simply ask Ambassadors to keep an eye out for people they don't recognize who may be new members, visitors, or guests. Introduce yourself, ask whether they're new to the club, and let them know you're a CSPA Ambassador who is happy to help. Sometimes, simply being friendly and welcoming is the most important thing you can do.
What Might a CSPA Ambassador Help With?
Here are just a few examples:•
Explaining the lock combination code to confirmed CSPA members
Showing someone how to use Playtime Scheduler to sign up for play
Answering questions about the availability of beginner lessons
Explaining basic rules, scoring, and court etiquette
Offering to join a new player for a game and help them learn as they play•Explaining how the paddle rack system works
Explaining some of our club resources that they can find out the CSPA website
Helping them learn how to get added to our club’s Facebook group or What’s App group
Answering questions such as, "Can I bring a guest?"
Most importantly, an Ambassador helps people feel welcome and included in our pickleball community. Guests are welcome, too—and a positive first experience may encourage them to become members. No question is too basic. We want people to feel comfortable asking.
How Can You Spot a CSPA Ambassador?
Easy peasy! Look for someone wearing a bright red CSPA Ambassador wristband.
You can also spot an Ambassador on Playtime Scheduler. If someone who signed up
for a session has an "(A)" after their name, that person is a CSPA Ambassador.
Our initial goal is to have at least one Ambassador at some of our higher-volume
sessions, such as Saturday Round Robins and Sunday Open Play. As the program
grows, we hope to have Ambassadors available at additional sessions throughout the week.
Two Small Asks of our Ambassadors:
We have two small requests if you want to become a CSPA Ambassador.
First Update Your Playtime Scheduler Profile by adding "(A)" after your last name. For example: Jane Smith (A) The "(A)" lets other members know that you're a club Ambassador. See the screenshot below.
Second, spend some time familiarizing yourself with the CSPA website. There is a ton of great information and helpful resources on our website that most members have no idea exists. It would help you become more effective in your role as an Ambassador if you could spend an hour or so re-familiarizing yourself with what’s there by checking out the various tabs and skimming through our website’s rich content.
How to Introduce Yourself as an Ambassador
When you're at the courts and see someone you don't recognize, don't be shy. Walk over, smile, and introduce yourself. You might say: "Hi, I'm [YOUR NAME]. I don't believe we've met. I'm a CSPA Ambassador. How long have you been a member of our club?"
Whether they're a longtime member, a new member, or a guest, introduce yourself and explain that you're wearing the red wristband because you're an Ambassador. Let them know you're happy to help answer questions about the club or pickleball. And remember: even longtime members may have questions!
What If You Don't Know the Answer?
No problem. You can simply say: "That's a good question. I don't know the answer, but let me try to find out for you." Ask for their name, contact Tim Jones, Randy Hoffmeyer, or someone else who may know the answer, and then follow up with the person. That follow-up can make a big impression. People are often genuinely surprised—and grateful—when someone takes the time to get back to them.
Forgot Your Red Ambassador Wristband?
No worries! We have a large supply of extra red Ambassador wristbands in the large shed at the courts. Look for the clear plastic bin with the green lid on the floor of the shed and help yourself to one.
